Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Murray looking at year out
Thursday 27th November 2008, 11:35AM GMT.
Goalkeeper Matt Murray faces a year on the sidelines but Wolves insist they haven’t given up on the injury-ravaged keeper regaining full fitness.
The 27-year-old undergoes his latest operation tomorrow after tearing the patella tendon in his right knee.
It is the latest grisly blow to Murray, who has battled back from major knee and shoulder injuries before and two stress fractures on his foot.
He had only just recovered from having his cruciate knee ligament reconstructed in his left knee.
But the club say the latest blow, sustained on loan at Hereford, is a new injury, and not connected to previous history.
Wolves’ head of medical services, Steve Kemp said: “Matt has had his scans and will undergo surgery tomorrow.
“He’s expected to be out for the rest of the season. This is a completely new injury and Matt’s left knee is fine. This is an injury to his right knee which he has no history of problems with.
“It has come completely out of the blue and is not career threatening. Matt will be looking ahead to his recovery in the New Year.”
Boss Mick McCarthy extended his sympathy to Murray.
The manager said: “It’s bitterly disappointing for Matt. He was just coming back and getting some football under his belt and now he’s suffered this setback.
“It’s too early to make any long term judgements but knowing Matt Murray, his strength of character and the way he has battled back before heíll be fighting tooth and nail to do so again.
“He’s a great goalkeeper and a great personality and everyone at the club wishes him well.”
Chief executive Jez Moxey also has faith in the keeper to make a full recovery from his latest injury.
He said: “We all feel for Matt after this terrible setback. But if anyone can come back from it then Iím sure he can. We will do everything in our power to help and support his recovery.
“The club are behind him, the fans are behind him, and I’m sure his family are behind him and we all believe he will return.”

He’ll be fit for the Premier league next season i’m sure. The lad is certainly no quitter. Admirable human being. Up the Wolves!

Unlucky again mate, Cant wait for the day when your back in wolves colours.
All the very best and a speedy recovery
Report abuse
Its a new injury and not one of the older one’s. That is just sheer bad luck!
Moxey’s line says it all. All wolves fans are behind him. Matt Murray is a lion, and I am sure he will bounce back. On Saturday I am sure the wolves players will want to win the match for Matt.

Good Luck Matt on yet another journey of recovery from surgery.
Hopefully you will be able to make a full recovery with no further injuries to follow!
Look forward to seeing you between the posts again!!!

surely this means theres no chance Wayne is going anywhere in january. ive always been a hennessey fan, and i really hope he doesnt go, although i remember somebody saying on here a few days ago, that £5-6million for him would be a great price, and provide more funding to put in a hefty bid for Michael Mancienne??
So proud of the boys at the mo, cant wait for the weekend and the blues game. its my first game of the season after going to pretty much all the home games last year! DONT LET ME DOWN BOYS!
UP THE WOLVES!

horrible injury – but its a blessing its his right knee. You’ve done it before matt, you can do it again.
Best wishes and we’ll see you between the sticks soon
Report abuse
I wish you all the best Matt, you don’t deserve this at all! XXX

Matt, all the very best to you, such a pity with all the injuries. We all know that without the injuries you would have been the England number 1. Memories of Cardiff…. Chin up BIG MAN!!
Whilst I appreciate he has hardly played for Wolves over a number of years, I hope the club has the decency to stand by him. After all he was probably the most influential player to get us up last time and if he can ever get back to fitness, he is a class act.
Good luck. In the meantime, keep up the good work Ikeme and if not available, come on Wayne and get back to the form of last season. We need a goalkeeper to command the area!
Injury is sometimes unavoidable and it is unfortunate that it had to happen again when Matt is on the road to recovery and full fitness.
Keep your the chin up and look forward to a fast recovery.
Thankfully the club is 100% behind one of the finest goalkeeping talents in English football.
To give up on a 28 year old goalie with a new injury would have been a bad decision. Matt is a clean-living athlete and his best years are still ahead of him.
Well done Wolves, makes me feel proud of the club.
You just could not make it up could you?
Best wishes for a speedy recovery Matt.
Everyone’s behind you Matt so stay positive. Hope the operation goes well.
Its a great shame he has the potential to be the very best. We should be proud of our club who will look after him regardless.
It also proves that we should hang onto Hennesey regardless. If nmothing else he isn’t injury prone!
Such sad news, I have no doubts that he will be back! I hope there is no rules stopping the bionic man from playing football! Keep your chin up Matt you have plenty of years left in you son.
His OTHER knee??? This guy just can’t get a break (no pun intended).
Get well soon, big man.
Good Luck Matt. We all know you are the best hope to see you back soon
Report abuse
Good luck in your recovery Matt & hopefully you’ll be wearing both the Wolves & England No 1 jersey because everyone knows you deserve it. You’re a top class keeper.
I wish you all the best.
Gutted for you mate – Looking forward to seeing you back next year.
They could take your arms off and you’d still be better than Frank Carson.
At 27 Matt has got plenty of time left for a goalkeeper. These days some goalkeepers hit their peak in their mid thirties, and are still playing in the Premier at 40.Hopefully his best years have yet to come.
I know its a big game on saturday but lets sing Matt’s name loud and proud, hes one of us and i was devastated to see him in tears.
Best wishes to Matt Murray at least the injury is not as bad as we first thought. Hopefully see you in action next year.

I just cant believe how cruel football can be i wish him all the best in his recovery, its sad to see such a great guy injured. Football is a cruel game and i feel for him, it always happens to the nice guys, i look at the idiots in football like joey barton and lee hughes who dont deserve to have a football career and only feel more srry for Murray, get fit soon and see ya in the Premier

Simply, solidarity Matt.

Such sad news really for such an amiable fella! You begin to wonder how much more can his body take? Is it time to knock on the head? I’ve always been a big Murray fan, but it’s such a shame to see him injured all the time. But fair play to the big-man though, can’t keep him down!
All the best Matty, and hopefully you’ll be between the sticks in the Premiership next year!
To sustain a completely unrelated injury is desperately unlucky and I wish you all the best. If the club are behind you then I’m 100% behind you aswell. Lets hope your bad luck has been used up for your whole career. You could have 10 injury free seasons left in you. GOOD LUCK MATT!

27….Whats a hypercontriac?????
Spelling lessons from terry idiot????
If you are refering to a hypercondriac its a person with a mental illness. Matt Murrays injuries are factual…..twit.
28 Terry idiot. Bang on time……never fail do you? Enjoying other peoples misfortune as usual – you really are a pleb. We certainly wont be looking at coco butterfingers carson thats for sure!
Get well soon Matt Murray.
Just like to apologise for the village idiots from ‘my team,’ who are using the injury to Murray to have a pop at the Wolves. Get well soon Mat I don’t care who you are or what club you play for I hate to see wasted talent. All the best!
Doesn’t matter how long it takes, he’s worth waiting for.
Instead of daft announcements about standing up being dangerous, perhaps this Saturday as the players come out why not an announcement being made wishing big Matt well? Imagine the roar.
How intimidating would that be?
I went and saw Murray at Hereford vs Cheltenham and he looked great. Such a shame. Good luck Matt you’ll be Englands No.1 soon

I was wondering where all the illiterate gits were and then up you pop!
A better keeper has not been seen in the west midlands since the great Bert Williams.
Get well Matt we all long to see you back with the team in the prem.
Up The Mighty Wolves

terryyougotnochanceofstayingupbggie, were have you been, mat unfortunately is finnished, and as soon as we all realise this the better, and as soon as boggie fans realise that they are allready down the better for them, they should never have got rid of phillips and they know it.

On behalf of all decent football supporters – thanks, Tipton Baggie (35), for your kind comments.
And all the best for tomorrow and a full recovery, Matt. Let’s hope the lads can win it on Sat – for you.
35) I was just going to retort to the village idiot of the day Celtic Baggie and then I saw your genuine comments. Murray has been injury prone but because of how good he is, it is worth persevering.
On to one of my big derbies – the Noses. It looks very much like they are going to have pathetic support on Saturday. They were originally given 1400 and to my knowledge have not requested any further tickets and still have a 100 left. Swansea brought more on a night game!
27 – Look up what hypercondriac means!!!! Its someone that thinks they have an illness or something wrong with them! He ACTUALLY DOES! So he is far from a hypercondriac – IDIOT! Say something man of glass or sick note at least would of made sense!
28 – Worry about your own team not ours! Use that brain cell and think (I know that may be difficult!) Why would we sell a Keeper to be left with one keeper in the squad?
In a way you will understand “ay we goin dow like a led baloon, aye aye boing boing do 1!”
35 thanks for the comment, least someone has brains in Sandwell!
Rant over!!!!!
ALL THE BEST MATT, Hope to see you again in a Wolves shirt. Lets go up for Matt and give him the chance to play in the Prem he never really had before!
365 days to go big man, get your head down, stay positive, work hard and with abit of well earnt luck you will be back between the sticks playing regularly in the prem, warming up nicely for 2010 in South Africa……

Thanks tipton_baggie for restoring my faith in humanity.
All the best Matt. You don’t deserve this. Can’t wait to see you back where you belong – in a Wolves shirt – in the Premier league!!
Good luck on Saturday!!
28- he wont be going anywhere now will he ? as we no longer have the 3 best keepers in the league fit just 2.
27- just thick….

dont want to sound negative but should never of been sent out on loan.

35 Tipton Baggie Much appreciated comments. There’s still time for the awesome Matt. What a loss to the game he has been. I wish him all he deserves; the best for the future.

Celtic Baggie and TERRY Cant Remember What Its Like To Score A Goal BAGGIE!!!!
I was always told if you got nothing sensible to say then don’t say a thing!!! In your case that would mean taking a vow of silence!!! Muppets!!!!!! I’m guessing your hiding your shame that you got calamity Carson between the sticks by posting moronic comments like that!!!
All the best Matt!!! Top bloke top goalie!!!!
Up The Wolves!!!!!!!!!!!!!
let’s get rid of him… no question about it.
George Ndah was exactly the same, great on his day, but playing a few games every other season is simply not good enough.
sorry matt, lovely bloke, great talent… but none of that matters when you’re flat on your back on a massage table. If it’s not one thing it’ll be another… guaranteed.

Good luck to Matt, Have to agree when he was fit, he was a world class keeper.
Just know Matt will be there for the Prem next year. Great to see our club right behind him.

So sorry for Matt im sure he will come back stronger and better all my mates at work say he has been awesome in the few games he played for hereford and it was just a freak accident he just went to kick the ball and collapsed , good luck matt all of hereford are behind you as well

Good luck Matt in your road to recovery alot of players would of gave up by now,but somehow you’ve got the mental ability to keep coming back after all these long term injury setbacks, you’ll always be a Wolves Legend even if you dont ever play for us again…

As Churchill said – no! NOT that dog! – Never…Never give up!
Jesus how much punishment can one person take??
Good luck Matt-Wolves behind you 100% at least this gives his left knee longer to fully heal
Report abuse
Matt must be feeling pretty low right now. I just hope it cheers him up a little knowing that all us fans are right behind him. We all remember his heroics in Cardiff against Sheffield Utd to get us into the premiership. The difference is, next year he will be performing those heroics IN the premiership. By the way, Tipton Baggie, pure class mate. We all like a banter, but there’s a time and a place. You’ve shown you know the difference between banter and bile.
Good to see there are true football supporters at Sandwell Town as well as the minority morons…every football club has them I guess.
Matt, all the best fella, you know the fans & the club are behind you & they will do everything to aid youre recovery as we all recognise the class & skills you have…the number 1 shirt is up for grabs for England..theres only James ahead of you as Calamity Carson will soon be relegated from the squad..along with his team from the Prem.
Good luck n speedy recovery big fella….keep the faith.
The futures bright..the futures Orange…N Black………….
