Tributes to tragic ‘little angel’ Olivia
Wednesday 26th November 2008, 11:34AM GMT.
Tributes have today been paid to a nine-year-old “angel”, who was found dead in the bedroom of her Walsall home.
The devastated parents of schoolgirl Olivia Meredith, of Peake Road, in Brownhills, have today looked through their photograph albums of their precious daughter after an inquest was opened into her death.
Olivia’s mother Sarah, 32, and 38-year-old father Alan, both carers, described their daughter – known as Livvy – as “happy and fun-loving”.
“Livvy was so vibrant and mischievous,” said Mrs Meredith.
“She just made everyone smile.
“I could be shouting at one of her sisters and she’d just be there giggling her head off. She melted everyone’s hearts,” she added.
“Everybody says their kids are amazing but Livvy really was. She was our little angel and I’m so proud of her. She just loved life.” Livvy, a pupil at Oakwood Special School, died on November 7, when her parents woke to find she had passed away during the night.
“I got up early because we were going to an ice skating competition with one of my other daughters and I went into a room for a kiss because I knew I wasn’t going to be seeing her that morning,” said Mrs Meredith.
“I put her to bed, her dad checked her at one o’clock but when I went in at 4am she was gone.
“They’ve ruled out all the obvious causes like pneumonia. She just wasn’t poorly. She’d been scoffing crisps the day before and had been perfectly fine,” Mrs Meredith added.
Devastate relatives said Livvy – who suffered from the neurological condition Rett syndrome which causes profound and multiple disabilities – was a music-loving youngster who adored school, children’s characters Postman Pat and Noddy, and riding donkeys at Sutton Park.
“She was doing so well at school, she’d got everybody wrapped around her little finger,” said her grieving mother.
“I’m quite sure she’s causing mischief up there in heaven and keeping everybody on their toes.”
“She was a little star who put all the rest of us to shame. We’re just lost without her.”
The couple also have three other daughters, Kennedy, 12, Eden, 11 and Brodie, seven.
Coroner Robin Balmain yesterday opened and adjourned an inquest into her death. He said, although there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the youngster’s death, an initial post-mortem had been inconclusive and that further tests would have to be carried out.
