Shoppers were jiving in the aisles at a Stafford supermarket’s 10th birthday celebrations.

Customers and staff at the town’s Asda store enjoyed a 1950s style party, complete with rock ’n’ roll dancing.

Stafford Mayor Councillor Ann Edgeller and her consort, husband Peter, entered into the spirit of the occasion yesterday(SUN) by doing a turn on the dance floor.

They also helped cut a special Stafford Castle-themed birthday cake to celebrate the landmark year.

Shoppers were handed birthday balloons and a host of free giveaways during the event.

Marketing coordinator Sherif Hegazy said the idea was to encourage customers to celebrate the occasion with staff.

He said:“Asda has always been proud to be part of the local community in Stafford and we consider ourselves to be more than a supermarket.

“Over the years we have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for local and national charities, supported local community projects and joined the people of Stafford in their various celebrations.”

Asda also took part in the Christmas celebrations in the town centre on Saturday.

There was a catwalk show on stage in Market Sqaure by Stafford’s seven finalists for the national “Face of George” competition.

Tracey Mayor, a teacher from Stafford, won the town heat, with Ashley James taking second place.

Tracey will now be entered in the national competition, which aims to find a new model to feature in the George brand’s marketing campaigns.
