Petition demands Lidl store is rebuilt
Monday 24th November 2008, 8:41PM GMT.
A 255-name petition was handed to Wolverhampton City Council today demanding Lidl be forced to rebuild its half-finished store in Finchfield – as it emerged a similar complaint about the height of another of its stores has been made.
The budget supermarket chain has admitted building its shop in Finchfield Hill 24 inches higher than agreed.
A planning application has been lodged covering the discrepancies but a decision is not expected until early next year.
Today it also emerged Warwick District Council has received a complaint about the height of a Lidl store being built in Leamington Spa. The situation is currently being investigated.
Brian Courtnell, aged 67, of Finchfield Hill, said today: “People are furious that it was built out of line. They are more than angry – they are incensed.”
He said granting permission to allow construction to carry on where it was left off would “make a mockery” of the planning department.
