The budget supermarket chain has admitted building its shop in Finchfield Hill 24 inches higher than agreed.

A planning application has been lodged covering the discrepancies but a decision is not expected until early next year.

Today it also emerged Warwick District Council has received a complaint about the height of a Lidl store being built in Leamington Spa. The situation is currently being investigated.

Brian Courtnell, aged 67, of Finchfield Hill, said today: “People are furious that it was built out of line. They are more than angry – they are incensed.”

He said granting permission to allow construction to carry on where it was left off would “make a mockery” of the planning department.
