Wolves 2 Blackpool 0 – verdict
Saturday 22nd November 2008, 5:15PM GMT.
Dominant Wolves warmed up for a week of heavyweight clashes as they ultimately swept aside Blackpool at Molineux.
Scottish international Chris Iwelumo celebrated his first game as Wolves captain by scoring both goals in the 29th and 66th minutes.
This was a game which Wolves ran for all but the opening 20 minutes of the second half – putting them in the mood for Sheffield United on Tuesday and Birmingham next Saturday.
Wolves really should have been home and dry by half time, after defender Richard Stearman missed two glorious headed chances before Iwelumo’s opener. Indeed, the big striker had earlier headed against the bar after just eight minutes.
As it was, Wolves were forced to reflect on their quick tempo and enterprising approach play prompted by the recalled Dave Edwards, making a rare start in place of suspended skipper Karl Henry, and Dave Jones.
On a day when chances gradually dried up as the game wore on for the home side, it’s perhaps Stearman who will probably feel most hard done by.
The newly capped under 21 England international saw a point-blank header brilliantly saved by keeper Paul Rachubka on eight minutes, before sending a diving effort wide in the 23rd minute from a Jones free kick.

Lovely win,,, a worry with the injuries though. I thought the defence had nothing to do. Ebanks looks injured to me, not at the races at all.

A clean sheet and Stearman able to go for goal on several occasions. His buddy Collins must have done a smashing match!
UP THE WOLVES!!!

Neil Collins Man of the match. Followed closely by Stephen Ward.

Another great win, many more to come. The team had been going great guns the past few matches.
There is depth in the team now and competent subsitute for those injured and others. Consistency, resilience, hardwork and determination are the hallmark of a emerging pacesetter and eventual leader of the division.
It spells a better season for Wolves and a long wait for better things to come.
Onwards for the glory of the Wolves and may it continue to flourish, a dawn of a new era.

I can’t remember a match where we were so in control for a long time. It should have easily been 4-0 at half time. Not to worry another 3 points and top 2 gap increased….great day in the office!.
What it will take to get the stay away fans back i do not know…come on down you will be suprised.

Good game for us, the lads dealt with this one well.
D Edwards was a breath of fresh air in Midfield, Collins great in the air but still dodgy on the floor with anytime to have to think about his actions.

Does anyone know the extent of Mancienne’s illness? Please tell me he’ll be back for Tues night.
Was at the game and our work rate was amazing!
We WILL win this league with that kind of effort.
Collins,Foley and Stearman were faultless.

Whats going on??? is Mancienne realy ill, or am I being paranoid,,it seems a bit strange,,he was fine for England,,and there was nothing befor Saturday about him being sick,,and the web site is not saying anything,,,,,why dont I trust our powers that be…..

At the end of the day Pedro, he’s not even our player. Yes, he is very good, but so are Collins and Stearman good together. Admittedly we could do with him for the next two games, which if we come out of with 3 points or more i’ll be very happy.

4 points out of the next 2 games would be lovely,, 6 points would be a bonus. Did anyone think Ebanks wasnt match fit? Big Chris is immense up front, hopefully Stears can save those missed chances against the blades.

from the next 2 games:
6 points we will win league.
4 points top 2 finish
3 points positive but nothing in stone.
I think mancienne will be back for blues. I cant wait to drive up for the game, just lovely as the albion are all slating mowbray and they are clueless.

Great result…..AGAIN!!!! this week really is a big week, i will be extremely happy with 4 points from the next 2 games , 6 points would be heaven but lets be realistic we are playing 2 good sides so we all know its not going to be a steamroller session like blackpool, but, hey! 10 points clear of 3rd spot, dare we dream???
Not putting a dampener on things but we need to accept that Hennessey is leaving in January and mark my words he WILL be going to Tottenham.
I am not bothered about Hennessey leaving I think he is grocely over-rated. He is not a box controller and if spurs think it will solve the problems from set pieces that they are currently having it wont. Wayne is a fantastic shot stopper but 5 mil with a sell on clause will be a fantastic coup for the club considring we have Ikeme and Murray on our books. I would like to see us buy Berra and Sinclair with the money.
Mancienne had flu and it was on the official website.
20,agree buy Berra and Sinclair but we must keep premership goalkeepers if he is good enough for Harry then he is good enough for Wolves.
Whats all this negative thinking,,why six points,,we can beat any team at the moment,,let them all worry about us,,I think our back four at the moment are brilliant,,Ward,Mancienne,Stearman and Foley,,,and talk about putting shifts in big Chriss is doing double shifts..we are 9 points in front of were the Sh-te were at this time last season,,,,,we are the team to fear,,
Report abuse
8. still yet to see them this season but I have my own reasons for not going. Usually get to a game each month and hopefully will be doing that again as of the New Year.
As with Hennessey, if he were to move to Spurs he’s gonna have to make sure he has no more howlers like the ones that cost him our number 1 spot cuz after Gomes they’re gonna be watching pretty closely. Is he ready?
it was men against boys,we had total control of the game appart from a 15/20 min spell should have had the game wrapped up in the first half but so long as we win thats all that matters, the next 2 games against utd then brum are must not lose games utd is the harder of the games so if we can get something off them we will beat brum,WE ARE WOLVES
Report abuse
If a team are as good as the table suggests Blues should be the tougher game especially as they’re in second place despite not really playing well all season.
Sheffield blow hot and cold and are likely to be unpredictable. I think our new found ability to grind teams down will probably show their weak underbelly.
Lets hope I’m not made to choke on these words!
