Six of the best for Rob Edwards
Friday 21st November 2008, 3:07PM GMT.
Blackpool captain Rob Edwards probably knows the Wolves team better than his own after four years at Molineux.
In no particular order, he gives the lowdown on ‘six of the best’ for Wolves, as the Tangerines prepare to face the Championship leaders.
Michael Kightly
Maybe the most outstanding player in the Championship, so we have to try to keep him quiet. He is definitely a player who will play in the Premier League one day and is one of the main threats.
He is a real joker and a confident lad and you can see that in his football. If you look at what Cristiano Ronaldo does for Manchester United, his goals are vital and thatís what Wolves are aiming for with Kites.
Kevin Foley
Kev has performed brilliantly and should be in the Team of the Year for the Championship. He is so consistent and produces quality performances week-in, week-out.
I haven’t played golf with him but he is a good lad and a bit of a jack of all trades, as his win in the squad go-karting proved!
He is one of those people who can pick things up easily but he’s another who can definitely play higher.
Michael Mancienne
I never got the chance to play with Richard Stearman or Mancienne, but I have played against them.
They have quickly developed a fantastic partnership and itís easy to see why. Michael is a really good athlete, he’s quick and a good footballer, which I know the gaffer likes.
They have developed a really good understanding in the three games together and Mancienne especially looks excellent. His England call-up was unbelievable but he’s tough to get past.
Carl Ikeme
It’s great to see Carl doing as well as he is and taking his chance, because he’s suffered so many injury problems.
But anyone who has seen him train knows the quality he has. He’s a naturally quiet lad but he is an absolute monster between the stick. He has a formidable presence and it’s great to see him doing so well.
Wolves have arguably the best three keepers in the league and either one of them could easily do a job, so Carl’s done well.
Chris Iwelumo
Even to say he’s big, strong and powerful does him an injustice, because he’s scored a lot of goals this season.
He’s always had an eye for a goal but his hold-up play is excellent and he’s really good at bringing people into play.
I think he has added a new dimension to the attack, because the lads say they have more options and heís done that job very well.
His partnership with Sylvan Ebanks-Blake is the best in the Championship.
Stephen Ward
As a makeshift left-back, he’s done very well by all accounts. He’s been flying at left-back and he now looks like heís played there all his career.
Wardy deserves to do well because he’s a really hard worker, but he has a lot of quality as well. As a team-mate or as a bloke, he will do anything for anybody. A top man.
