Skipper welcomes the Edwardses

karl-henry.jpegWolves captain Karl Henry has welcomed the arrival of two Edwardses for the visit of Blackpool this Saturday – even though it is at his own expense.

Ever-present Henry, who recently made his 100th appearance for the club, is suspended for the weekend game after accumulating five bookings.

Dave Edwards is vying for what would be only his third League start of the season – although he has been involved in all but one of Wolves’ Championship matches so far.

On the opposite side is Blackpool captain Rob Edwards, who made a record £275,000 from Molineux to Bloomfield Road in the summer.

It is a mystery who boss Mick McCarthy will choose to lead the side against the Tangerines. While Henry is disappointed to be missing out, he reckons the Molineux boss has the ideal replacement in Welsh international team-mate Dave Edwards to play alongside Dave Jones.

The skipper said: “I’m not happy about being out and not happy about giving someone else a chance, because I want to play every game possible.

“We’ve got more than capable players to come in and someone like Dave Edwards will be fresh and itching for a possible chance to play.”

While Henry misses out, Wolves are also walking a disciplinary tightrope, with Michael Kightly on four bookings.

More suspensions is the last thing the team needs, with games against fellow high-flyers Sheffield United and Birmingham in the next nine days.

Henry said: “We’ve got another couple of players on four bookings who can hopefully stay booking-free because we need them available for the big games coming up.”

The Wolves captain is relishing the chance to meet up again with Rob Edwards, who became good friends with many of the current players during his four-year stint at Molineux.

Henry said: “It will be nice to see Rob (Edwards). He’s a great guy. I’m glad he’s doing well there at Blackpool and is captain.

“By all accounts they’re a good side who’ve been unlucky a few times with results, but they’ll come to Wolves in good heart. Rob knows exactly what we’re all about and I’m sure they’ll make it difficult for us.

“It’s another game everyone will be expecting us to win but we’ve got to knuckle down and try to do it.”

Henry isn’t under-estimating the task in hand, with a stiff test expected from Blackpool, who have already beaten Blues on their travels this season.

He said: “It’s a tough league. It will be a difficult game at the start of a week with three difficult games. There’s never any complacency here – the gaffer wouldn’t let it happen and the lads aren’t like it anyway.

“We’ve got to be bang on top of our game in every single fixture, because on their day a lot of teams can beat anyone else. It’s such a tight and difficult division.

“Half our squad have been away for the internationals, which probably doesn’t help, but we’ll be back on it today and preparing for Saturday.”
