Attack on club security after shootings
Thursday 20th November 2008, 11:44AM GMT.
Details of a triple shooting at a Black Country nightclub were revealed today as police condemned failings in security at the bar. Shots were fired at Tropical Harmony.
The manager was shot in the neck while his brother was blasted in the arm and leg when an armed gang tried to storm the club.
A female bouncer, aged 25, was shot in the stomach during the 3.30am attack at the nightclub in High Street, Bilston, on September 29.
In a report to Wolverhampton City Council, Wednesfield police’s licensing officer Michael Pearce said: “It is suffice to say that there have been similar incidents in other parts of the country where similar attacks on this type of premises have taken place.
“Police inquiries indicate that there were failings on the part of the premises in relation to the CCTV, staff levels and the contacting of the police.”
Police now want more door staff, better CCTV and for revellers to be searched with a metal detector.
Licensing chiefs will discuss the application on Wednesday. A 17-year-old youth from Aston and a 20-year-old Wolverhampton man have been charged in relation to the incident.
