Albion rally round Carson

Thursday 20th November 2008, 4:40PM GMT.

germany51.jpegAlbion boss Tony Mowbray has shrugged off Scott Carson’s latest England mishap as the club rally round their under-fire goalkeeper.

Mowbray backed Carson to put his error in Berlin behind him, as defender Jonas Olsson also insisted England skipper John Terry was to blame for Germany’s equaliser in the 2-1 England victory.

The manager said: “Scott has been back in and he doesn’t seem to have made a big issue of it. These things happen in football and people move on.

“Great credit goes to John Terry for standing in front of the TV cameras after the game and accepting responsibility.

“I’m sure he thought that as the experienced player that is what he should do, but it’s still not easy to do it in front of the cameras.

“Scott is fine and as far as I’m concerned he will get on with his job here. I sat here a few months ago being asked about Scott getting back into the squad and I said then that I was only concerned with how he performs for us.

“It is the same scenario now. I want all of my players to play for their country but I’m really only concerned with how they perform for us.

“I could look back at the goals we have conceded against the top sides over the past few weeks. I think about how many Scott was to blame for and there wouldn’t be too many.

“Scott trained today, he was fine and he will get on with his job.”

Carson was involved in a mix-up with Terry which allowed the Germans to cancel out Matthew Upson’s opener but Terry redeemed himself by heading England’s late winner.

The England skipper then accepted responsibility for the German equaliser and Swedish defender Olsson has declared his faith in Carson, agreeing that Terry was at fault.

Olsson said: “I think John Terry should have kicked it away.  I have full confidence in Scott – in fact he is one of the players that has impressed me most here.

“I have full faith in him as the goalkeeper behind me. Scott had a tough game against Croatia a year ago but the way he has played this season shows he has put it behind him.”

if the keeper was descent, he should of kicked it away as he was the one who could see the striker coming, he was hesitating too much, Terry only blaming himself as he knows it will mean a big backlash on carson. He had a nightmare on saturday v united, i thought 3 of the goals he should of got.

In response to your witty post yesterday:

‘nedball how is it at the bottom? no sponsor? reduced capacity? boardroom legal battles going on? the countrys laughing stock as your goalkeeper? -14 goal difference?’

    Answers –
    1. Bottom of the Prem (for now) is the highest league position your ‘big’ club has achieved in the last 20 years am I right? Would you rather be top of the Championship, or bottom of the Premier League with the chance to move up??….be honest!!
    2. No sponsor – that’s not exactly bothering me, as my shirt doesn’t look like an advert
    3. Reduced capacity – better facilities to look after people who attend matches (give it a try)
    4. Boardroom battles – not exactly boardroom battles are they? A couple of people trying to look after their investments, and JP trying to look after his…..Steve Morgan should give it a try
    5. I can’t even make any sense of that ‘sentence’ but I’ll reitterate, Scott Carson is obviously good enough to play for his country in the eyes of the England manager, it doesn’t matter what a bloke who calls himself ‘laughingwolf’ from Tettenhall, who demonstrates his one eyed viewpoint on football on a daliy basis thinks does it?!
6 – I agree, I’d much rather we were +14 goal difference, but hey ho!!

Sorry to everyone else for the length of this post!!

Everyone knows it wasnt Carsons fault, just look at Terry’s face in the match and it says it all, its that this poor keeper is unfortunate.

But if England would have lost that match or even held to a draw the media would have disintegrated poor Carson for this mistake.

Another thing is would Capello keep that starting lineup for England? mind you they deserve it, they showed more determination than the primadonnas that stayed at home pretending they were injured, now let us see if for tomorrows matches i suppose they’ll be fit again? well wait and see.
