Bloc Party will be touring Intimacy, their third album, which was produced by Jacknife Lee and Paul Epworth.
The band was formed at the 1999 Reading Festival by Kele Okereke and Russell Lissack and got their early breaks by giving demos to Franz Ferdinand singer Alex Kapranos and BBC DJ Steve Lamacq.
Two acclaimed albums, Silent Alarm and A Weekend in the City, followed.
The latest album has impressed many critics.
The New York Times reviewer praised the album, saying: “Bloc Party have managed to prevent their sound from stabilizing since emerging as one of the sharper bands in the British new-wave and postpunk revival. Here, with the producers Jacknife Lee and Paul Epworth, the group pushes toward full-blown eclecticism.”
The Guardian’s Dave Simpson wrote: “Brave, individual and heartfelt, Intimacy offers treasure for fans old and new.”
Rolling Stone magazine said: “Their latest album finally finds a way to combine jittery club grooves and big hooks into a seamless rock record — their most dynamic yet.”
But not everyone was impressed. The Observer Music Monthly called it “brave, but forgettable”.
Q Magazine said: “Bloc Party remain a band with the greatness they seek still hovering somewhere on the horizons.”
