Mancienne tipped for England team
Saturday 15th November 2008, 11:48AM GMT.
Wolves on-loan defender Michael Mancienne has been tipped for a call-up into the full England squad for the game against Germany in Berlin next week.
There is more good news on the Mancienne front, with a supporter claiming he has been told by the Chelsea manager that Mancienne is staying at Molineux for the rest of the season.
Fans were already keeping their fingers crossed that the under 21-starlet will be tempted to stay until the end of the season. London-based Wolves fan Jeremy Skidmore reckons he can assure the fans that Mancienne will be staying.
The freelance travel journalist was at a travel trade show in London when he had a chance meeting with Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari.
Skidmore was interviewing Bernardo Trindade, the secretary of state for tourism, in a private room on the Portugal stand, when the Chelsea chief turned up.
The Wolves fan got the lowdown on Mancienne after cheekily asking the Chelsea boss about the defender’s prospects of staying at Molineux.
He says he was told by Scolari: “Mancienne will stay at Wolves until the end of the season, because I want him to play. I have enough cover in that area and it is better for him to play at Wolves than come back and not get a game.”
Mancienne’s current loan runs out on December 29 and can then only be extended until the end of the season, at which point Chelsea would have no recall rights under FA rules.
He had been expected to join three Wolves team-mates on duty for England under-21s next week, with Stearman, Michael Kightly and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake in the squad for Tuesday’s friendly against the Czech Republic.
Mancienne is now expected to be called into Fabio Capello’s senior squad instead.
