Ince urge for new Walsall deal
Friday 14th November 2008, 11:20AM GMT.
Goalkeeper Clayton Ince wants Walsall to “keep to their side of bargain” and open new contract talks before Christmas.
The 36-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international, who is now into the third and final season of his Saddlers deal, has become a mainstay of the defence.
Ince would be happy to continue but it is wondering whether owner Jeff Bonser’s warnings this week about looming cutbacks because of the recession will have an impact on his future.
The shotstopper is happy to rely on a “gentleman’s agreement” with manager Jimmy Mullen to begin talks before the end of the year but is clearly hoping for a signal that this season at the Banks’s Stadium will not be his last.
Ince said: “We’re looking to have talks by the Christmas period so we can see what’s happening. The gaffer has already spoken to me about it but I don’t want to go into too much detail.
“I like to focus on playing and leave it to the management team to think about contracts. I am keeping up my end of the bargain by keeping fit, performing and trying to get Walsall points, so hopefully they will keep up their end of the bargain.”

Ince is a favourite of the fans. If, through not negotiating early, the club lose Clayton the loyalty of the faithful following will be severely tested, with an inevitable further decline in attendances. As a supporter for 56 years I would urge the club to secure his services on a longer contract.

Giv e him a new contract before we lose yet another one of our top players to another club. How many times has he saved us???Endless amounts and he is our best keeper since Walker. Give Reich a new contract aswel. I think he should be in the team more. Since he has been taken out of the side, we have gone on this slump in form. I agree with letting ishy go because he did not have the right attitude. This could be put against mullen to why we have a manager who cannnot even control his players correctly. Mullen is obvs to lenient and is a push over on the players. I say give Mullen a little longer and hopefully he will show us he can take Walsall to new heights. I dont understand why we havt gone in for a new striker. Byfield was on the market again this week and has just signed for Oldham. Why havnt we tried to get him???

I do hope Walsall make some progress on this one as I would not want to see Clayton walk away in January, not if we are still serious about making a play off position.
It is still possible, we won our last league game and we are doing well away from the Banks`s.
Come on you Saddlers – despite the dreadful performances in the cup comps I still have faith – OK blind faith maybe but I still think we have a good squad, it just isnt always being played correctly.
Beat Colchester then get behind the team against the MK Dons.

Get out clayton before it gets worse!!

I cant see it happening, giving him a decent contract extension. We never did it with players like Martin O’Conner, and Adrian Viveash, and we lost them to other clubs. I think the same will happen here. The club will never learn
