Big Chris Iwelumo has challenged Wolves to ‘bully’ struggling Southampton to bury their St Mary’s hoodoo.

Wolves haven’t even scored a goal in five visits to Saints’ new home, losing three games 2-0 and forcing goalless draws in the other two.

Youthful Saints are playing a variation of Holland’s ‘total football’ under Dutch World Cup finalist Jan Poortvliet, but languish fourth from bottom.

Iwelumo believes Wolves must impose their strengths on one of the Championship’s youngest sides.

He said: “I’ve heard we’ve got a poor record there and it’s up to us to make sure we can be a bit of a presence and bully them and play a bit of football as well.

“We’ve got to make sure we impose our game on them.”

The young Saints side have only won once in eight games at St Mary’s this season and have only scored six goals in front of their own fans.

Yet Iwelumo insists the players will remind themselves of their 5-2 drubbing at Norwich to avoid complacency, as Wolves seek a fifth successive win.

He said: “It doesn’t always happen the way you want it to. The Championship has shown us time and time again that you can’t take anything for granted.

“We went to Norwich and got beat 5-2 and we’ve got to think back to that – there’s no complacency with us. We definitely won’t be thinking ‘they’ve only won one game at home’ – that doesn’t come into it.

“It’s a clean slate and we’re going to have to do the basics right, get our work ethic right and hopefully, we have the quality to get a result.

“There’s no one getting ahead of themselves because we know it’s going to be a hard, hard game.
