Walsall duo face decision on future
Thursday 13th November 2008, 11:38AM GMT.
The futures of Chris Palmer and Marco Reich will be decided soon, according to Walsall boss Jimmy Mullen.
The duo’s deals run out at Christmas and the Saddlers manager has revealed he expects to discuss their future with football consultant Paul Taylor and chairman Jeff Bonser in the near future.
Palmer has become a key figure for Walsall this season, making 18 appearances scoring once.
Reich started the season in the side but has become peripheral recently and has made 13 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice.
Mullen said: “Paul and the chairman and I will sit down and thrash out what we want to do, it is fair to say it is imminent.
“Chris has shown his versatility and has played a big part since the season started. Marco is a little bit different, because he has been on the fringe in terms of playing but he is an important part of the team.
“I have not sat down and spoken to them yet but Chris has been very influential in every game and Marco has done his part.”
The midfielders are unable to speak to other clubs until their deals expire but Mullen was unable to confirm whether the current financial issues at Walsall would cause problems in any potential contract negotiations.
He said: “Until I sit down and discuss it with the necessary people I can’t comment.”
Chairman Bonser has stated there is unlikely to be a mass influx of new faces in the January transfer window but Mullen insisted he is not worried about the lack of money.
He is yet to go to the chairman to ask for new loan recruits.

Ishy gone no option.Reich will go earns too much.Gerrard the same.Palmer on £30 & a bus pass will definitely stay (cheap option).Mullen wont go,another cheap option & no compensation too pay. It’s sad because it’s our team,But the only way to hit Bonser is to stay away.

How does staying away “hit Bonser”? He’ll get his rent whatever happens. You are only hurting the club and fellow supporters by staying away. Do something positive like protesting to get a new owner – don’t just stay away as it doesn’t help. up teh Saddlers.
