New service for heritage railway line

Tuesday 11th November 2008, 11:01AM GMT.

A new train service for shoppers and commuters could be created from Kidderminster to Bewdley to help ease major congestion around the town, it was revealed today.

The new service would run along the Severn Valley Railway, the first service of its kind since the 1970s.

Under the plans it is proposed the train, which would run outside of the current hours of the tourist-based services, could one day stop at a new station set to be recreated at Foley Park to serve the south side of the town.

Talks have been held with Nick Ralls, general manager of the Severn Valley Railway, to discuss ways in which the railway could ease traffic problems.

Liberal Democrat MEP Liz Lynne joined Mr Ralls on a tour of Kidderminster Town Station. Mr Ralls said: “The Severn Valley Railway is aware of the potential for a local rail service from Kidderminster to Bewdley.”
