Wolves fans turfed out
Monday 10th November 2008, 11:00AM GMT.
Wolverhampton councillors have criticised Wolves fans for parking on grass verges around West Park on match days.
Councillors Robin Lawrence and Claire Darke took pictures of cars illegally parked off the road during Wolves’ clash with Burnley this weekend.
Councillor Lawrence said: “There are double yellow lines on the road at this point so it just as much an offence to park on the grass verge as on the road.”

If people were allowed to park on empty residential streets then these problems wouldn’t happen. It seems that the only part of Wolverhampton that does not want to see a succesful Wolves in the Premiership with an increased capacity Molineux is the local council! This view is very short sighted as it is well known that a Premiership football team can help to raise money and regenerate the local area. Sort it out councillors!!

I live in the city centre and wonder whether it’s really that much to ask that residents put up with extra parking in their streets on average once every week and a half for 9 months of the season?
There should be more parking available in any case. And maybe a park and ride to cater for all those fans coming in from Tettenhall/Penn sides. You get the Metro and train lines which help with other directions.

So where were the parking wardens then?
Typically absent when complaints about parking are made, but they’ll be on to you like a shot if you stop for 30 seconds anywhere else….
Ticket and clamp these cars in West Park as a major deterrent. That’s the only way to get the message across.

Geoff thats a stupid answer… Its just going to shift the problem to a different area and then we will be back at the same blog wont we???!!! I agree with Dave if they made more parking available for match days! it aint rocket science instead of so called Councillors Lawrence & Darke taking pictures why dont they do somthing to help people out.. instead they try and make more money clamping and fining us…

2 Dave –
how would you like it if you come back from an outing and find that you cant park your car infront of your house or in your street. where will you park your car then? why should us residents park far away from our house to find a space to park our car. im glad the council have done the permit badges for the residents

Is is that difficult to jump on a bus on match day?
Along North Road people always park on double yellows. I find it strange that you can park there and not get ticketed if you display a disabled blue badge. Always amazes me how people park up, stick a badge in the window and then run to the match.

The bus station is 2 mins walk from the ground. Use the bus and don’t worry about parking, ticketing or being clamped. You’ll get home a lot quicker too as less cars will mean the ring road frees quicker after a match.
common sense innit?

also dave, fans coming from penn can catch the buses 512 and 514, and fans from tettenhall can catch the bus 501…….
