Battle against project is over

Neighbours in a Lichfield village have lost their fight against a business park being built by their homes.
Stoford Developments’ third design for Lichfield Park in Streethay has been given the nod by the district council’s planning committee, and offices, warehouses and industrial units are now set to spring up on farm land off Burton Old Road.
Streethay villagers have railed against the business park plans, which will have permission to potentially operate 24 hours a day.
Members of the Streethay Boley Park Action Group said the scheme would result in “24 hour misery” for surrounding residents, citing noise and light pollution as well as increased traffic.
Stoford has said that the many businesses would not exercise the option of operating overnight, but that restricting the hours of use would put companies off investing at Lichfield Park in the first place.
The original application was withdrawn in 2006 in the face of overwhelming public opposition.
A second proposal was refused almost a year ago, and Stoford had launched an appeal over the decision.
Now that the third, less intensive scheme has met with approval. The Planning Inspectorate has confirmed it is holding the appeal in abeyance four months.
