Bednar waiting for Czech call

Bednar is not expecting a call-up for the Czech Republic when their squad is announced next week for the World Cup qualifier in San Marino.

The 25-year-old is confident he can force his way back into the international frame, after Czech coach Petr Rada flew to England to watch him in action.

Rada was at the Hawthorns last week to watch Bednar score in the 2-2 draw with Blackburn and is expected to announce his squad for San Marino early next week.

Bednar said: “I didn’t know he was there before the game, but I had a call from a reporter back home on Sunday telling me that the coach had come to watch me.

“It’s a really nice step forward but I’m not getting too excited yet. The Blackburn game was a really strange game with some strange incidents, so I don’t know if the coach will have seen enough to make his mind up about me from one game.

“I’m just pleased that he is now thinking about me, because I don’t think that the old coach ever watched me play. I haven’t spoken to the coach but he has told the media in the Czech Republic that he is planning to watch me again.

“It would be nice to be in the squad for the San Marino game, but if I’m not then I will just carry on working really hard again to make sure he keeps watching me.

“I’ve managed to get four goals so far and I just want to keep scoring and, more importantly, helping the team. If I can do that in the Premier League then the coach will have to keep me in his mind.”

The Czech Republic take on San Marino away on November 19 looking to overcome a stuttering start to their World Cup qualifying campaign.
