Friday 7th November 2008, 11:37AM GMT.

A woman who was stabbed in the chest while she worked at a fast food restaurant in Wolverhampton city centre last month has died in hospital.

Ann-Marie Kamilla Parkes, who is in her 20s, was stabbed at the Caribbean Hut in Broad Street on October 18. She underwent an emergency seven-hour operation but doctors were unable to save her.

An inquest is due to open today. A 42-year-old man appeared in court days after the attack charged with attempted murder.

Co-worker and partner Devon Cohen, of Riches Street, Whitmore Reans, will appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court on January 12 when he is expected to enter a plea.

The stabbing was the latest incident to blight Broad Street, which is soon to be closed overnight in a bid to tackle violence and crime.
