corus.jpgSteel giant Corus is to slash 100 jobs from its workforce in the Black Country, including 50 in Wolverhampton, it announced this afternoon.

The firm, which employs around 500 people in Wednesfield Steelpark, blamed falling demand from the struggling vehicle and construction industries.

The news was broken to shocked workers at the company’s sites across the region earlier today.

Its Indian owners Tata announced last month production was being cut by 20 per cent, slashing it by one million tons by the end of the year.

Around 50 jobs will go in Wolverhampton, with the rest from Corus sites across the area.

Currently there are around 250 working at sites in Wombourne, Cradley, Dudley, Round Oak in Brierley Hill, Kingswinford, Great Bridge and Telford.
