Phone firm in mast bid

Wednesday 5th November 2008, 11:27AM GMT.

A mobile phone firm is launching another bid to put up a mast in Kidderminster despite previous plans being thrown out by a government planning inspector.

A bid was first put forward by Vodafone for the mast in Wolverley Road in 2004. Campaigners celebrated after it was thrown out for good in 2005 after a Planning Inspectorate ruled in their favour.

Now a new plan for a 48ft mast has been submitted by the phone giant.

Councillors for the area said they expected there to be an outcry.

In the last few years Franche residents have fought around half a dozen applications for masts in their area.

Wyre Forest District Council turned down the first bid at the end of 2004 after a petition was raised – but Vodaphone appealed to the Government.
