6976cyrille-regis-mbe.jpgWest Midlands soccer legend Cyrille Regis achieved a new goal today when he went to Buckingham Palace to receive his MBE from the Queen.

The former, Albion, Wolves and Villa player was honoured for services to the voluntary sector and to football.

The former England player remains a much-loved figure among football fans in the Midlands.

The striker, aged 50, was born in French Guiana.

He was training to be an electrician when he was spotted by Albion scout Ronnie Allen, who also managed the club, which led to him signing his first professional playing contract with West Bromwich Albion in 1977.

Tributes to Cyrille in tonight’s Express & Star.
