Connie lands spot on Oprah
Tuesday 4th November 2008, 11:41AM GMT.
Young singing sensation Connie Talbot is to appear on the Oprah Winfrey show. Her guest appearance comes after she reached No.2 in the US Billboard charts with her debut single.
At seven years old and still attending primary school, the youngster has still managed to succeed where most adult singing stars fail. She has cracked the US market, which has fallen hook, line and sinker for her sweet voice and cheeky smile.
Along with her proud mother Sharon, the schoolgirl was flying to the US today to appear on Oprah’s legendary couch.
Each show is watched by up to eight million US viewers plus millions more worldwide.
The Express & Star caught up with Connie and her mother as they searched for the perfect outfit at Gallagher Retail Park in Wednesbury.
“I can’t believe it, to be honest,” Mrs Talbot said.
“Oprah is one of the most famous people in the world, and it’s certainly the biggest talk show going, so it’s really exciting.
“As normal, Connie is not taking much notice of the fuss, but it will be a real experience to remember.”
The talented Streetly youngster has come a long way since finishing runner-up in last year’s television show Britain’s Got Talent, winning over judge Simon Cowell and reducing Amanda Holden to tears with her performance.
The Blackwood Primary pupil spent two weeks in the US last month, appearing on TV and radio shows.
The show is due to be aired on November 17 in the US, but will not be on British TV screens until later this year.
Mrs Talbot said Connie had enjoyed their recent whistle-stop tour of the States, where she had been interviewed on another major talk show, the Ellen DeGeneres show, alongside the wife of movie star Jim Carey, Jenny McCarthy.
Mrs Talbot said: “We had a wonderful time over there and even stayed in a hotel room that overlooked the Hollywood sign.”
