Wolves opened a gap at the top of the table thanks to an early scoring blitz against Cardiff City at Ninian Park.
Watch Tim Nash’s exclusive video report from the game
Mick McCarthy’s men got off to a flyer, netting both of their goals in the first eight minutes.
Chris Iwelumo opened the scoring in the fourth minute after a double mistake by the Cardiff defence.
Sylvain Ebanks-Blake doubled their lead on eight minutes after beating the off-side trap to finish in the corner.
Ross McCormack pulled one back on 19 minutes to score his 11th Championship goal of the season for Cardiff, now managed by former Wolves boss Dave Jones.
Iwelumo capitalised when centre-half Roger Johnson misjudged a header 35 yards out from goal.
The Scotland striker ran in on goal, dodging a mistimed tackle by Joe Ledley, and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Tom Heaton.
Ebanks-Blake’s strike came after he latched onto a through-ball to beat ex-Blues and Albion star Darren Purse as the last man in defence.
After a clear run into the box he slipped a left-foot shot past Heaton from the edge of the six-yard box.
The home side’s luck worsened when former Molineux striker Jay Bothroyd limped off after pulling up with a hamstring injury on 10 minutes.

Well Done Mick although was concerned bringing Collins on for 10 mins – we were only one up !
Stearman & Mancienne Different Class.

Our boys are growing into men. This was not a pretty win, but its these victories promotion are made off.

Good performance and 3 more points welll done MM and the boys. Upwards and onwards and won at the bookies also.

We’ve Gotta try and buy Mancienne, he is different class!

TREMENDOUS RESULT
Report abuse
great result for us. it was always going to be difficult going to play them on home turf and most teams this season will come away empty handed but it just shows how MM has changed the ethos of the team and brought in a bit of grit. Great loan from Chelsea, shame we cant keep him.

Stearman & Mancienne Different Class. altho maybe Mancienne was a few yards out of position for cardiff goal but thts just being picky.
Iwel and Blake have got abit of friendly rivalry going on for top scorer, which is great, no other team will have 2 goal scorers in the top 5 come the end of the season.
I think Mick Grey for away games and Carlos for home games is a good way to go until Jarvo is back.
I saw tht Ashley Cole has been injured for chelsea so we may lose Mancienne, hopefully if this does happen we will see a Stears/Shackell centre which i think would be just as good.

Well done Mick, great result
Please sign Mancienne in january!!

great win keep going boys.

I forgot to say im a litte worried for kightly, he has been off the pace for a couple of games, could be fatigue, maybe a break on the bench is in order, we have the team players to cope without him for a couple games, Carlos on the right and grey or anyone else on the left maybe.
great win would have been happy with a draw before kick off but fab result! buy mancienne mick, dont wanna lose wayne but recon he will be on his way for 6m so use it to buy mancienne and an u21 left back/left midfield an we will be up

Perfect weekend. Seven points clear of Reading, that is huge so early in the campaign. Well done lads.

A true grit performance ,
Hit them hard and stunned them 1st half .
Dug in 2nd half and stopped Cardiff from playing .
Spot on with the tatics Mick Well Done .
Macienne will prove a great asset to us just hope we can extend the loan signing to the end of the season , great pace and vision looks a quality player !!!!!!
I am not Micks biggest fan, but a good decision dropping Collins even though he played well in the previous game. Mancienne was different class and him and Stearman should now hopefully form a solid partnership which we desperately need. Excellent loan signing by MM.
Out thought them out fought them.
This was an important win. We have now been top of the league at the end of each of the first three months. Looking at Novembers fixtures that should not change. The Blues to look forward to at the months end.
Up The Wolves
P.S. the Baggies are still looking good for the drop. Shame!

good win lads lets stop all the moaning now.ikeme made good save at end & mancienne was class apart from there goal.

Forward will always score looking very strong in that department, hope Coventry can do us a favour Monday night.

Stearman and Mancienne is the best centre half pairing we’ve had for a while. I really hope that we can get Mancienne till the end of the season cus him stearman and foley are 3 of the best defenders in the championship and with our front pairing, well HAPPY DAYS!

finally got to watch a whole game!!!!cardiff v wolves was game of the week on fox sports here in oz.
couple of highlites apart from the goals-
-SEB’s great slide tackle and through ball to send kightly off down the touchline-brilliant
-34 yr old mickey grey chasing down and blocking a clearence which dribbled across the box in the 82nd minute, shame keough just stood there and watched!!
mancienne-graceful,solid and definately not scared!!!!

I think Ikeme Is doing a great job and I think he is the best kicker of the 3 goalies
Growl Growl Donk Aye

I think we really need to push the boat out and pay whatever Chelsea want for Mancienne in January. He is different class, too good for us. We need to keep him all season.
Overall it was a comfortable win. Still not sure about Ward at left back tho. His distribution is pretty poor.
stearman and mancienne were awesome, and clearly should be in the starting XI every week. still a little concerned about the hennessey affair. ikeme is doing well, but wayne is world class, why isnt he playing??
the front two…. well, what can i say, they’re doing the job week in week out. just hope birmingham stumble on monday. this is the year!
UP THE WOLVES!

Mancienne! CLASS

If Iwelumo and Ebanks-Blake are the new Dougan and Richards, are Stearman and Mancienne the new Munro and McAlle? Is Foley the new Parkin? Are Henry and Jones the new Bailey and McCalliog? Is Jarvis the new Wagstaffe? Is Keogh the new Farrington? (Am I dreaming? Am I in a coma?)
Another excellent win. Mancienne was magnificient – man of the match. What are the chances of getting him permanently I wonder? Shame Andy didn’t make it 3-1 when he was clear through. Could have knocked another off the 20 he promised.
Great first half second a little mixed-MK was quiet but did he look as if he had put weight on–All those cakes brought by Spearman – well just a gamme were they managed to stifle him-SEB and Chris did the bus. Great win the most improved player for me is Foley if I had my doubts he put them to bed- Lets get tighter and push on–Well done MM you are certainly silencing your doubters–Crazey Dave

Mancienne what a game he had. man of the match!!! get him mick

nice one lads.another 3pts in the bag. good to see the tescos gettin a point aswell.hope they stay up then the prem can see what local derbys are all about. thought would’nt it be great if the blues came up with us now that would be brill
but i dont think the mol would be bigger enough to cope with the demand.
well done lads good harn earned three points, thats what make you top of the league guts, keep it up,and our two up front will keep banging them in,also well done incy keeping the boggie’s to a draw.

Great Win! Moron Cardiff fans shouting for fouls and penaltys every 2 minutes! Dave Jones went on record about the Nottm Forest fans being idiots chanting peverse words! He needs to look at his own fans, chanting towards Ebanks-Blake!
Up the Wolves!

MM:Fantastic Clipboard, made my day, brilliant attacking football.I’m off to my Villa in Portugal to get some golf in,you can drive the coach, the Scouts can scout,Moxey can count the cash he’s going to get in January from the sale of Hennessey.AND IF i’m lucky the wife will let me pick the team for the next match.AND they never even scored.Life’s Great.
Clipboard: They did Boss it was 2-1.
MM:I’m not talking about us idiot,i’m talking about ROY KEANE getting stuffed by Chelsea!!!!

Gr8 result and perfomance away from home, whatever it costs and whatever it takes sign Mancienne NOW. There must be £15 million left from the £30 million takeover. P.S. we should never have moved away from wearing gold socks, new kit looks fantastic.
Top of the table :)
Not a convincing performance with midfield and kightly missing in action virtually all game. Mancienne was different class and Wolves need to sign him in the January window. Still three points away from home and back on a winning roll. C’mon the Wolves.
great win against tough competition. Mancienne looked really good – keen, enthusiastic and very positive. Collins looks the weakest link at the moment. Ikeme seemed safe enough but was a bit too casual with his kicks – he could find it coming back without adequate defensive cover.
Baggies look dead certs for the drop. You can see from the ill informed comments they post. It started with optimism, now pessimism has set in and by Christmas it will be deep depression. How nice.
Bring on the Blues. The sooner they are put in their place the better – they can entertain the baggies playing ludo in the psychiatric ward for the chronically depressed.
Up the Wolves.

i love wolevs but only when we win.

great result lads stop playin after 10 mins but i would of taken 2-1 at the start of play, but wolves fans we have all got to start believing keogh is just not good enough did u see the chance at the end do u think blake or chris wud of missed that defo need to look for a striker in jan cuz if seb or chris gets injured we am doomed
Report abuse
I’m really glad that I don’t manage Wolves and that MM does – I would never have bought Iwelumo in a million years as I thought he was another big lumox who couldn’t play. How wrong could I be? He gives the team so much with his flick-ons and the way he holds the ball up. I think it is the big fella who is the most important player for our team at the moment.
up the Wolves

Mancienne is class, try and get him until the end of the season.Who says one man cant make a difference?
great win, well done lads. Almost threw it away, but our luck is certainly in right now.
One thin, I have to think that Henner is on his way out. With big offers rumoured from Arsenal and others, it would be one sale that makes sense to me if Ikeme and Murray are available.
Got to be big money, but we could really strengthen the squad with it.
Its the only explanation i can think of for why the Welshman isnt playing.

If i were you I would be more concerned about your own shower over at the poorthorns , rather than worry about your brummie counterparts beating us in November and the goals KP could have been scoring for you this season !! lol
Nice to see the Premiership Table is taking shape now . Cream will always rise to the top…. and let you let take your rightful place in the bottom 3 !!

Couple of songs for you terry, keep them on your i.pod if you can afford one “Down down deeper and down” & “Heartbreak Hotel”. Do you reckon Donk-ey will still be with you when his loan ends? I hope so he’s even worse than the other lot you have, I’m looking forward to your next three results. If cream stays at the top then you lot must have turned sour the way you are sinking to the bottom.Don’t get suicidal though because you really are quite amusing in a pathetic childish sort of way

Dont shout too loud, you aint won anything yet.

Great WIN, but Mancienne was why we won. He was brillient in defence. Shame we have got another like him. There would be no probs. I thought the opportunity the AK had after SEB was taken off would have been put away if SEB had the been in the same position and that is the difference between a natural goalscorer and a good player. I just hope we don’t have any more injuries in that department. BUY Mancienne if you can!!!

Oh Merlin Mick, how we do love you,
Except when we played Norwich & were thumped by 5-2,

Finishing behind both Birmingham & Reading,
We will then lose the play offs & have to get poster & pen,
And write in big letters YOU’VE LET US DOWN – AGAIN!.

Well done wolves and the away fans watched the game on Sky–The two commentators were so biased against Wolves it was unbelievable–Who is the bigger club–Wolves-We play at the Asda Dome –Come on SKY BE FAIR–Well done mad mick take back all I said on our GK issues–Lad from Arsenal got everything in the air–Great show–Crazey Dave.

Oh Tony Mowbray, how we do love you,
Except when we played Hull & were thumped by 3-0,
We are bookies certs for staying up although we are dreading finishing last.
Recent results haven’t gone away,
which means we are second from bottom today,
We will then lose to bigger clubs like Stoke, & have tears to rub,
The dingles can then write in big letters THE BAGGIES ARE A REALLY SMALL CLUB.
