Young keeping Villa feet on ground
Thursday 30th October 2008, 10:39AM GMT.
Defender Luke Young has urged his Villa team-mates to keep their feet on the ground with the season still at such a premature stage.
The right-back notched his first goal in claret and blue colours in the 3-2 win against Blackburn, scoring a vital equaliser on the stroke of half-time which transformed the complexion of the game, before Gareth Barry and Gabby Agbonlahor chipped in with second-half strikes.
Young said: “I didn’t know too much about it, I think the word you would maybe use is that I bundled it into the net. It came off me, I flashed at it and it went in, but it was a vital time for us to score really.”
“It’s brilliant that we are fourth but it’s early yet and there’s a quarter of the season gone. We’ll keep our feet on the ground but it’s been a good start.”
The summer signing from Middlesbrough also admitted the hectic fixture schedule is taking its toll on Villa players but insists there is nothing wrong with winning ugly.
He said: “We improved in the second half but I think it’s fair to say that we weren’t at our best, maybe some of the games are catching up on us a bit.”
