It is known for its colourful collections of artwork, sculptures and exhibitions.
But, with the help of celebrity garden designer Diarmuid Gavin, the roof of Walsall’s £15 million New Art Gallery is soon set to become as much of a show-stopping spectacle as its displays.
The Irish award-winning designer has been commissioned to design a rooftop terrace at the site, in Gallery Square.
He dropped by the landmark site to get inspiration for the new green outdoor space, which is hoped will help visitors to relax and socialise after taking a look around the gallery. “This is the first time I have been to the venue. I am very impressed with it and I am delighted to be given the opportunity to design the rooftop garden,” he said.
“It is a really exciting project and I am really pleased to be a part of it.”
Stephen Snoddy, director at the gallery, said: “The project is at a very early stage but we are really excited to be working with such a renowned designer.
“Diarmuid’s designs are contemporary with strong architectural aspects and will compliment the stunning vista on the terrace,” he added.
