Relegation report rubbished by boss

Tuesday 21st October 2008, 6:09AM BST.

speedway2.jpgAngry Wolves owner Chris Van Straaten has taken a swipe at a report that his club won’t be relegated – even if they lose to Edinburgh over two legs.

Van Straaten has described the report, carried on local radio, as ‘completely untrue’ and no such agreement is in place.

Promotion and relegation was introduced by the British Speedway promoters’ Association last winter and there is a hefty financial reward for Premier League champions Edinburgh to beat Wolves, the Elite League’s bottom club.

Wolves, who have booked James Grieves as a replacement for the injured Morten Risager on Friday, are looking to keep the score tight before returning to Monmore Green for the second leg next Monday.

Van Straaten said: “It’s a worrying time for us but I don’t even want to contemplate the prospect of us going down.”

The present team would struggle to beat Mildenhall from the Premier League and they have lost every meeting this season.

Well CVS, soon it will be time to show if you all what it takes to do the job or not!
Edinburgh are a good team and they will make it hard but can Wolves win?
After the season we’ve just had, it would not be the biggest upset to see us lose and go down to the Premier League and that would see Monmore Green as atmospheric as a graveyard!
Pity you and Peter Adams were not as concerned back in May when the writing was clearly on the wall but you both decided to leave well alone, so the defeats kept mounting up.
In July, yet again you had the chance the change the team but told everyone that ‘the riders we want are not available…’ – and so the defeats continued!
Now Wolves are now fighting for their very existence but will they have the balls for such a fight? I won’t be holding my breath!

I watched Wolverhampton Speedway from 1970 until moving to Somerset in 2001 and I can assure all Wolves fans that the Premier League has some awful teams, but they also have some very good teams and expecting a quick return to the Elite League wouldn’t be quite as easy as you would imagine.

Throw in the melting pot that our top riders are unlikely to want to race in the Premier League then Wolverhampton have a serious problem if relegated this month. The next seven days could close Monmore Green down again as a speedway venue. I hope not.

After what i’ve seen of wolves this season it doesn’t surprise me where they have finished and they deserve to be there!!!

Being a wolves fan for a long time, obviously i’d like to see them grab both meetings by the balls and show there true colours!!!

As for next season i think it’s time for a total change. Peter Adams has done a creditable job over the years but i think it’s time to move forward and bring a new class of riders and team management in order to put us back in with a chance of winning leagues and trophies again.

Personally i’d bring in Sam Ermolenko as Team Manager and get in riders that want to be part of a team and chase success and get rid of these so called assets if they have no intention of riding for us

Oh and i’d also get rid of Van Stratten cos i think he’s had his time now

at the end of the day we beat edinborough last night 53-37! and i still have faith in the wolves! and even if we go down to the premiership i will still be there to cheer them on cuz thats what a true fan does and those of you who doubt the wolves cant have that much faith in your team and you cant really call yourself a true fan! hopefully wolves will prove thier worth at the second leg at monmore green monday night. Come On You Wolves!!
