Wolves pulled off a six-point victory over Birmingham at Perry Barr to maintain their hold on the Midland Shield – by a ten point aggregate margin.

The teams turned out to be well-matched in the second leg with just one 5-1 recorded all evening, at that was as early as Heat 2 when Wolves guest reserves Jerran Hart and Luke Priest notched maximum points.

The Brummies recovered from that setback as their heat-leaders initially got the better of Wolves skipper Fredrik Lindgren, and they trailed by just two points at the half-way stage.

Morten Risager rode well to overhaul Craig Watson in Heat 8, and when Watson failed to get off the start-line in Heat 10 Wolves were suddenly six points to the good.

Remarkably all of the last five races were shared. After James Wright had defeated Lindgren in Heat 11 and Jason Lyons had avenged an earlier loss to David Howe in the next, it was the Lindgren brothers who took control.

Fredrik won Heat 13 ahead of Tomasz Piszcz and Wright, and younger sibling Ludvig made sure of the Shield for his side with a comfortable win in the penultimate race, before Fredrik wrapped things up in Heat 15.
