Robbo’s pain in the backside

boro1.jpegAlbion defender Paul Robinson is desperate to be a pain in the backside for Manchester United on Saturday – after being knocked out by one on his last trip to Old Trafford.

The Baggies defender reckons Albion could surprise the Premier League and European Champions in Saturday’s 5.30pm clash.

He is anxious to banish memories of his previous visit to Old Trafford in 2005, when a man-marking job on dangerman Wayne Rooney was cut short after Robinson was left dazed by a freak collision with a team- mate.

Robinson said: “The last time I played there I got knocked out by Thomas Gaardsoe’s backside. When we’ve gone there I feel we’ve generally done well. There is no pressure going into these games because United are expected to walk all over us.

“We need to relax and play the football we can.I enjoyed man marking Wayne Rooney. He was one of the best young talents around at the time and still is.

“For me to be handed that job was an honour and I thought I was doing alright until Tommy knocked me out. I was out on the sidelines and we were down to ten men when they scored their opener.

“That set us back a little bit. I got checked out by the Manchester United doctors and I watched the rest of the game on the TV in the changing room.”

Robinson left the action with the scoresheet blank but Albion lost the game 3-0.

They have not won at Old Trafford since the famous and epic 5-3 win in 1978 but Robinson is confident they can compete strongly on Saturday.

He said: “We went there and got a great point in the ‘Great Escape’ season. We played later than everyone else that day and after the results we knew a point would be a good result for us.

“There’s no pressure on Saturday so we can go and enjoy it.”
