Landmark church to get revamp

Thursday 16th October 2008, 10:48AM BST.

A landmark Kidderminster church is undergoing £140,000 refurbishment to help restore the spire and stop the roof leaking.

Grant cash has now been secured to help meet the costs of re-inforcing the inside of the spire at Baxter United Reformed Church in Bullring.

David Arnold of architects Hook Mason, based in Hereford, said today that the ironwork inside the 140 feet tall spire had rusted causing the stonework to crack.

He said: “We are mainly dealing with structural problems. A steeplejack carried out an inspection of the church in 2006 which showed that the iron in the spire was rusting.”
