Spa crowned best in UK again
Wednesday 15th October 2008, 8:12PM BST.
A spa in Staffordshire visited by stars such as Take That, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Joan Collins has been named as the country’s top resort for the fourth year running.
Hoar Cross Hall near Yoxall was today named England’s leading resort in the 2008 World Travel Awards, described as the Oscars of the travel industry.
Managing director Stephen Joynes MBE, who grew up in Walsall, said he was thrilled the hard work of all his staff had been recognised.
“It’s a wonderful achievement,” he said.
“We feel very honoured to have won this award for the fourth year running.
“It’s a testament to all the staff we’ve employed here over the years who have made Hoar Cross Hall a paradise on earth for thousands of repeat guests we’ve had coming through our doors.”
Hoar Cross Hall Spa Resort, based in a sprawling stately home, beat off stiff competition from leading spa resorts across the UK to scoop the award, which is voted for by professionals within the travel industry.
Mr Joynes, who was awarded an MBE two years ago for his services to the industry, purchased the Grade II listed stately home in 1989 and has spent £30 million restoring it to its former glory.
Hoar Cross, built by Sir Hugo Meynell for his wife Emily Charlotte in the 19th century, is now five times its original size.
Since it opened in 1991, the 100 room resort has played host to Robbie Williams, actor Clive Owen and Girls Aloud.
Attractions include a salt water swimming pool, water grottos, gym, yoga and pilates suites and a nine-hole golf course.
