In the past women were expected to fade into the background as they got older. Luckily, there are enough women ageing gracefully today to show us how its done – such as Dames Judi Dench and Helen Mirren. In short, there’s never been a better time to embrace getting older – it’s just a question of getting it right.

And fashion label Eastex – which caters for women aged 55 plus – decided to show shoppers just how to get it right with a stylish showcase of its latest fashions at Wolverhampton’s Beatties department store.

More than 40 ladies, some joined by their husbands, were the guests at the fashion display in the Victoria Street store yesterday.

Beatties sales assistants Maria Southan and Rosemary Lawrence, who both work on the store’s Eastex concession, turned models for the day as they showed off the latest styles to customers.

They dressed in classic and casual daywear outfits from the autumn/winter collection as well as showcasing a host of elegant eveningwear.

Greens, browns and purples featured as did tweed, velvet and organza fabrics.

Department manager Sue Pike said: “The collection provides quality and comfort without compromising on style.

“There are some lovely colours.”
