Blue badge delay poser

Sunday 12th October 2008, 8:03AM BST.

Having severe osteo-arthritis in my right hip,and waiting for a hip replacement I find it increasingly difficult to get near stores for shopping etc.

As result of this difficulty in July this year I applied for a Blue Badge to help in parking.

Weeks later I received a letter saying my application had been received but it would take 12 – 14 weeks to process. About three weeks ago I received  a further communication indicating that I would have to attend an assessment to see if I qualified.

I later telephoned the office dealing with it and asked why it takes 12-14 weeks to process the enquiry.

I was told that the badges are hand made which makes the time so lengthy. Having seen badges issued to friends the mind boggles as to what part is hand made.

If I lived just 400 yards across the boundary with Dudley I would have been issued with a badge without any problem.

One would have thought that applications for such a badge would be standard  throughout the country.

T A Bennett, Farrington Road, Ettingshall Park, Wolverhampton.

Hmmm…my badge looks like its was made by machine. You’d hardly expect so many thousands a year to be hand made.

The time delay is also rather big. Mine took under 3 weeks to come through, though that was from Walsall a couple of years ago.

You’ll find the closest parking to many shops isn’t disabled bays. Its normal parking.
And much of the time its difficult to find a disabled space.
Still, you get to park in some car parks for free (not all) and you will have the opportunity of people muttering nasty comments about you when you do manage to get a disabled space.

I dislike comparing Canada and my beloved home land, but I suffer the same as T.A.Bennett,who is waiting for a hip replacement. My family doctor gave me a form to take to the Vehicle licencing Dept. and was given a permit which hangs on my driving mirror. All done the same day. I feel for my fellow country folk.

Got mine same day by attending in person, was assessed, had photo with me and payment, very nice young lady filled in my forms ‘Hand Wrote’ my badge and away I went, that was in Sandwell I had to go to Tipton, was 4 years ago, I do find that the wider bays help with me getting in and out of the car, like mothers and toddlers and they get the same ‘nasty remarks’ always think there but for the grace of god is my motto, If a bay is not available I never moan lifes to short, just grateful for what I am allowed. I did not have any trouble when I came to replace it after the 3 years either, took the right paperwork in and it came in post 2 days later….So hope T A Bennett is sorted now and has his badge, if not appear at he office.
