Eleven workers at shops in Wolverhampton and Walsall lost their jobs after the stores were named among 31 nationally to shut and staff at other branches in the region fear for their future.

Now administrators are warning their will be more closures in the coming days.

The sweeping cuts, which come two weeks after the chain went into administration, included 87 jobs going at the company’s distribution centre in Selby, North Yorkshire.

Rosebys owes trade creditors about £11.7million and inter-company creditors £19m following a downturn in consumer spending. The company lost £6m in the financial year to March.

The latest round of closures comes less than a week after 10 stores were axed.

Howard Smith, joint administrator and KPMG restructuring associate partner, said: “It is with regret that we have had to close both the distribution centre in Selby and 31 more stores across the country.

“We anticipate further store closures next week, while we continue to have dialogue with a number of parties who are interested in either the whole or parts of the business.”

A worker at the Wolverhampton branch, in Wulfrun Way, confirmed that the store had shut to customers yesterday.

Walsall’s Old Square branch has closed but the shop in Bradford Street remains open. A member of staff at the surviving store said today: “We do not know what the future holds.”

Six workers at Kidderminster’s Market Street shop said they were also worried they could lose their jobs.

Branches in Nottingham, Stevenage, Burton, Liverpool, Hammersmith, Dundee, York and Hull are among those that have closed.
