Nurses feline fine for fun run
Friday 10th October 2008, 10:11AM BST.
A group of Staffordshire nurses are set to cause a stir when they complete a fun run in comedy cat costumes.
The foursome will be tackling the troughs and jumps of the Only Fools Fun Run at Weston Park this weekend complete with whiskers, kitten ears and collars.
The nurses, who range in age from 26 to 50, all work in intermediate care for South Staffordshire PCT. This means they look after people before and after hospital admissions.
Three of the nurses – Donna Griffiths, Sereca Atherton and Sue Marsden are from Stafford, while Heidi Wilkinson is from Rugeley.
They decided to dress up as cats for Sunday’s event because Sue Marsden works for CAAT – a mercifully short acronym drawn from the full title of Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease Admission Avoidance Team.
Their colleague, clinical care co-ordinator Chris Donnelly, said she is “too old” to run the race at 58 but has been doing her bit by finding parts for the costumes from Cannock market.
She said: “They’ve all been going out training in their gear and they’ve been getting blokes wolf whistling at them and beeping their horns. They’ve caused quite a stir!” Anyone wishing to sponsor the team can call 01543 462504.
The Only Fools Fun Run at Weston Park is being held in aid of the Anthony Nolan Trust. Starting at 11am.
