Currys job boost ahead of opening
Friday 10th October 2008, 9:40AM BST.
Sixty new staff have been taken on by electrical retail giant Currys ahead of unveiling its new look megastore in Wednesbury next week.
The 60,000 sq ft shop, is just off junction nine of the M6.
It has undergone a big money revamp and will reopen next Thursday with four times more stock.
Floorspace at the Axletree Way megastore, the biggest of its kind in the UK, has not been increased but a refit and new layout has made room for more than 10,000 products, including more than 200 different televisions, 120 digital cameras, 250 fridges and freezers and 150 computers.
An extra 60 staff have been recruited from around the area, taking the total workforce to 150.
Doors will open from 7am on Thursday while Sutton Coldfield’s Olympic gold medal-winning cyclist Paul Manning will be at the store from 10am on Friday to meet customers and race against challengers on a Nintendo Wii.
A weekend of special offers will also be running from Thursday until October 19, with prices slashed by up to 50 per cent on selected items.
The spruced-up store also features a number of interactive ‘play tables’ allowing customers to try before they buy on various items.
There will also be dedicated areas for products from technology giants including Apple and Microsoft.
