Doris May Pickett, aged 84, was fast asleep in bed when the blaze took hold in her living room. She suffered smoke inhalation.

Her bungalow, in Greenfields Road, Kingswinford, is part of a sheltered housing complex for the elderly and Dudley Community Trust staff were alerted as soon as her smoke alarm went off.

Two fire crews from Brierley Hill and one from Stourbridge rushed to the scene at around 9.55pm on Saturday.
