Singers get in tune for next show
Sunday 5th October 2008, 9:15AM BST.
A choir which is still going strong after more than half a century is gearing up for its latest concert later this month.
The Gentleman Songsters Male Voice Choir will perform at Dudley Concert Hall on Saturday, October 11 from 7.30pm.
Langley Brass Band will perform as guests, as the group belts out favourites including Nessun Dorma, She, The Rose, Autumn Leaves and Softly.
And the Songsters will welcome back Don Maclean as the compere and comedian for the show.
Musical director Mike Wells and accompanist Neil Bolton will be leading the performance, along with assistants John Walley and Steven Swindells.
Funds which are raised from this season’s programme of Songsters concerts will be split between Dudley Talking Newspaper for the Blind, Sedgley Blind Institute and Wombourne-based charity Wings.
The group, which performs up to 30 concerts each year at venues such as local church halls and community centres, marked its 50th anniversary with a concert staged at Dudley Concert Hall last year.
The Songsters were joined by the Ukele Orchestra of Great Britain and presenter Michael Collie from the BBC, who presented the show.
Anyone interested in attending the concert should call the ticket hotline on 01384 838863 or alternatively contact Dudley Council Plus on 01384 812812. Tickets are priced £12.
