Teacher jailed for pupil sex assaults
Saturday 4th October 2008, 11:37AM BST.
A supply teacher at a Wolverhampton school has been jailed for 18 months for sexually assaulting three pupils.
Raminder Shinh was immediately escorted off the premises of the school as soon as the first complaint was made by one of the girls, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.
The graphics teacher admitted three charges of sexually assaulting children.
Yesterday, the 32-year-old, of Europa Avenue, West Bromwich, was told he would never be allowed to work with children again. Mr Mark Rees, prosecuting, said the assaults came to light after one of the girls told her mother Shinh had behaved inappropriately.
The girl told police officers she was aware the teacher “had done it with other pupils” and the other two girls were then interviewed.
Miss Heidi Kubik, defending, said Shinh was “full of remorse for what he had done”. She told the court that he was still struggling to come to terms with his actions and said: “He has lost everything. He has lost his good name, his good character and his career. ”
She said Shinh had gone into teaching after the collapse of a cafe business which had left him with financial problems and that resulted in the breakdown of his four-year relationship.
He had sought counselling for his “turmoil”, said Miss Kubik, but he had reacted in a way that had brought shame on his family. Judge Nicholas Webb placed Shinh on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years. He said: “You have committed a grave breach of trust.”
Wolverhampton City Council spokeswoman Julia Corrigan said: “He was employed through the Monarch Supply Agency from September 5 to November 14 last year. He was a teacher of design and technology.”
