Carlos wants a longer stay

edwards2.jpegCarlos Edwards wants to stay longer at Wolves after turning down several other Championship clubs – if Sunderland will let him.

The Trinidad and Tobago international, who has joined Mick McCarthy’s men on a three-month loan, launched his Molineux career today at Swansea.

The 29-year-old, who has been squeezed out at the Stadium of Light by Steed Malbranque, is willing to extend his stay.

Edwards said: “If they do want me for longer, I’m willing to stay on. It’s not just up to me, because Sunderland are my full-time employers and it depends what they think.”

The winger also revealed he turned down the chance to join Sheffield United. He was also linked with Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff.

He said: “No one on the staff at Sunderland mentioned Sheffield Wednesday or Cardiff to me.

“Roy Keane did mention Sheffield United to me when he called me into the office last Friday and he said I should consider it. I didn’t just want to leave because he told me to think about it. I wanted to weigh up my options because it wasn’t quite right.”

Sunderland boss Keane said: “There were a few clubs in for him, including a couple before Wolves came on. But when it boiled down to it, Wolves were who he wanted to join.”

Keane believes Wolves will get the chance to see the best of Edwards.

The Black Cats manager said; “We think this is the best possible move for him. He’s gone to a club that’s flying high and hopefully will get the best out of him.

“Hopefully we’ll get a better, sharper Carlos back in January.”

Hopefully he’ll be an excellent addition to the Wolves squad and we get to keep him permanently.
Very exciting player and glad to see him in an old gold shirt.

fantastic signing, quality player, and i hope he proves himself and we sign him, we need strength in depth – as this week has proven in several positions we dont have quality cover

If Carlos does turn out to be a little gem then surely its got to be worth throwing some cash at Sunderland to keep him on laon till the end of the season!?! He is the cover and competition that we are craving in that position and I would think a long loan would be worth a punt at around a million?!?!?
