M6 shut to repair potholes

Highways engineers quickly fixed the three potholes in lane one before lifting the roadblock minutes later.

Highways Agency spokeswoman Jo Carroll said: “We would not normally carry out repairs during rush hour but it was necessary because of the hazard the potholes posed. It did cause some congestion during a busy period but was dealt with as quickly as possible.”

The Highways Agency also had to repair potholes twice on the M6 in Staffordshire yesterday.

A lane one closure was put in place on the northbound carriageway near junction 13, for Stafford, at around 5.35pm, again causing rush hour congestion.

The lane was re-opened at around 6.15pm but Staffordshire Police later reported the potholes had reappeared. Lane one was closed again at around 8.30pm and was not re-opened until 4.50am today.

The work is temporary and permanent repairs will be carried out on Saturday.
