wd3081999mark-cannon.jpgA man stabbed to death in Lichfield has been identified as Mark Cannon. Mr Cannon, aged 44, collapsed outside a block of flats in Burwaye Close at teatime on Monday.

A post mortem examination carried out yesterday revealed that the man died as a result of a stab wound to the neck.

A 35-year-old woman arrested at the scene in the Lichfield cul-de-sac on Monday has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

The woman, believed to be a resident in the Burwaye Close flats, is currently undergoing assessment and treatment at a specialist hospital where she remains on bail.

Forensic experts were still examining the scene yesterday. The commander of Lichfield’s Neighbourhood Policing Unit, Inspector Jonathan Staite said he was grateful for the co-operation of surrounding residents.

Police and paramedics were called to Burwaye Close at around 6.25pm on Monday evening after neighbours reported seeing a man collapse outside the flats as children played nearby.

Mr Cannon, who is from Lichfield but had no fixed abode, was taken to Good Hope Hospital in Sutton Coldfield, where he died.

Anyone with any information should call the incident room on 01785 234953.
