Wolverhampton Civic Hall is set to stage a mini “monsters of rock” festival with the opening date of Motorhead’s UK tour, which also features Saxon and Danko Jones.

The three bands roll into the city on Monday, November 3, with Motorhead promoting pulverising new album Motorizer; Saxon taking a break from recording their 18th studio album and Canadians Danko Jones showcasing their fourth album, Never Too Loud.

Motorhead have been shaking the nation to its foundations since 1975, formed after bassist and singer Lemmy left the band Hawkwind.

They scored their biggest successes in the early 1980s with the albums Overkill, Bomber, Ace of Spades, and the classic live album No Sleep ’til Hammersmith.

They remain a huge draw on the live circuit and appeared at this year’s Download festival at Donington Park in a line-up which included Kiss and Judas Priest.

Saxon are just one year younger than Motorhead, having been formed in Barnsley in 1976.

They were one of the leading lights of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement which also spawned the likes of Iron Maiden, Def Leppard and Diamond Head.

Among their big 80s hits are Wheels of Steel, 747 (Strangers in the Night), and Strong Arm Of The Law.

They continue to tour to this day and, despite a mind boggling amount of personnel changes still feature original members Byff Bifford and Paul Quinn.

Last year’s The inner Sanctum album drew critical acclaim and Saxon too appeared at Download this year.

Never ones to stand still, Saxon will release Into The Labyrinth, their 18th studio album, on January 12 next year.

Three-piece Danko Jones hail from Toronto and were formed in 1996.

They have released three albums, Born a Lion, We Sweat Blood and Sleep Is the Enemy, now joined by the new disc, Never too Loud, which features the single Code Of the Road.
