Chris Iwelumo scores a hat-trick for nine-man Wolves at Deepdale – and is then sent off.

17:09: Full-time whistle goes. Players and fans alike are seething at the ineptitude of referee Martin Atkinson.

17:08: Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey sent off for Wolves after conceding a penalty. Shackell in goal. Neil Mellor converts.

17:04: Jason Shackell makes his Wolves debut as a sub – on for Matt Jarvis.

16.58: On the comments, dolf has a plan for Iwelumo to get out of his straight red: “Don’t worry Chris. Stick a Chelsea shirt on when you go for your appeal, You’ll be alright (!)”

16:50: WHAT! Iwelumo involved in an off the ball incident with Preston defender Sean St Ledger and is sent off. The referee apparently didn’t even see it.

16:45: Jones crops Kightly in a dreadful challenge in the area. Penalty. Iwelumo converts for his hat-trick.

16:44: Karl Henry’s low drive saved by Lonergan.

16:41: Iwelumo connects to Kightly’s cross to grab the second goal for Wolves.

16:28: It is thought that McCarthy was sent to the stands for applauding the referee in front of the away fans as the team came off for half-time.

16:26: Preston striker Sam Parkin’s free header goes into the arms of Hennessey.

16:25: It looks as if Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has been sent to the stands – to sit with the Preston fans.

16:18: Second half begins.

16:03: Half-time at Deepdale.

15:59: Goal disallowed for Preston, with a brilliant save from Wolves goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey in the build up.

15:57: Preston defender Billy Jones bizarrely gets a ticking of from the referee for having his shorts on inside out!

15:50: Wolves striker Chris Iwelumo opens the scoring with a spectacular overhead kick.

15:49: Wolves defender Neill Collins hits the crossbar with a header.

15:43: A shot from Wolves defender Richard Stearman just clears the crossbar.

15:40: Wolves midfielder Dave Jones booked for unsporting behaviour.

15:25: Contreversy as Preston penalty appeals waved away for an apparent handball on the line.

15:21: Kightly goes close again, Lonergan saves with his legs.

15:18: Wolves winger Michael Kightly goes close with a shot while falling back for Wolves. Gathered by Preston goalkeeper Andy Lonergan.

15:15: Game kicks off.

15:00: Kick off delayed for 15 minutes due to traffic congestion.

14.45: The teams are in. Tim Nash brings you the latest in his video report from Deepdale.

Preston: Lonergan, Jones, Mawene, St. Ledger, Hart, Nicholson, McKenna, Carter, Sedgwick, Mellor, Parkin.

I’ts got to be said, it’s a cracking start to the season for you guys, the way it’s going you’re certain to be in the mix up for an automatic promotion spot.

One thing I would say however, it’s September and you don’t win anything in September so don’t get carried away just yet.

Congratulations so far though, get up to the prem and we’ll have a premier league black country derby to look forward to provided we stay up which I’m confident we will do.

If anyone was in any doubt about our credentials then doubt no more…..what a performance, another 3 goals, away from home, against a previously unbeaten championship team.
I make that 21 goals from 7 games, make no mistake this very strong, entertaining and attacking football !

Its still early days but already we are stretching this league and have got a healthy points gap over most of our rivals for promotion.

Hats off to all at molineux, the futures bright…the futures old gold.

56 Trust Mick – What a ridiculous thing to say.

I was one of those people calling for micks head last season and for very obvious reasons.

And now he has clearly seen the error of his ways and has stopped playing stephen ward as an attacking player which he will never be.

He has stopped playing Neil Collins as a wide back which he will never be.

And he has finally dropped andy keogh.

…But top marks to him this season. He has put his stubborn nature to one side and its working. Cant complain…. and were lucky we have carl ikeme and sam vokes to come in for the next 3 matches which we shud win!.

On the other we have terryEASYWINbaggie (47 3 etc) who cannot do anything but mis spell and spend all his time on our site!

Ah well, I suppose we shouldn’t “mock the aflicted” – at least, by visiting our site so often, he shows some degree of taste!

    The ref had no clue.
    1) Iwelumo should not have been red carded alone because both players did exactly the same thing.
    2) Hennessey should not have been red carded because he genuinely tried to play the ball and there were covering defenders nearer to the goal than the attacker so he was not the last man.
    3) McCarthy should have been red carded not for dissent but for his team selection.

Looking at the video – it looks like Hennessey has more than a shout than Chris for having his red rescinded. He went for the ball – their guy got up straight away ( fair play to him) and there were defenders between keeper and goal !! The Iwelumo incident looked like they both “dummied” a header towards each other and got the timing wrong !! Poor reffing
