Blues 0 Blackpool 1

Saturday 20th September 2008, 2:32PM BST.

Alex McLeishLive updates from St Andrews as Birmingham take on Blackpool in the Championship.

16.54: Blues leave the field to boos from the home crowd. The controversy surrounding the goal will stick in the throat for Blues but they could not find the net against a lowly side. Birmingham fans – get those comments in. Is this a blip or a collapse?

16.49: With Wolves 3-0 up away at Preston, Blues will see this as a major slip-up even at this early stage in the season. Struggling sides like Blackpool should be put to the sword if you’re after promotion.

16.44: A Bent shot is caught by Blackpool keeper Rachubka. Blues fans – get those comments coming in.

16.39: Make that five strikers on the field. Quincy Owusu-Abeyie comes on for David Murphy. If they don’t score, this will be embarrassing…

16.38: Burgess sees another shot saved by Taylor. Blues now have Jerome, Bent, Phillips and McFadden on the field. Surely they can get a goal between them?

16.24: Ben Burgess heads wide for the visitors. Taylor-Fletcher’s goal was the first time a visiting side has netted at St Andrews this season.

16.18: Bent, on for Agustien, sees his shot blocked by Rob Edwards. Phillips is on for McSheffrey as Blues look for an equaliser in a game they would have expected to win.

16.07: Gary Taylor-Fletcher gives Blackpool the lead. There is a hint of offside as he sneaks in and cooly finishes past Taylor.
15.52: Half time. Blues need to improve in the second half.

15.48: Gary McSheffrey fires over the bar.

15.38: Vaughan in front of goal close to the penalty picks out the top corner, only to see Maik Taylor claw it away. Should have been 1-0 to the visitors.

15.28: Martin Taylor heads a Sebastian Larsson corner over the bar. Blues have switched from a 4-5-1 formation to 4-4-2. It’s surprising that Birmingham started with a defensive formation – it is only Blackpool after all?

15.23: Blackpool are largely frustrating Blues, who have yet to stamp their authority on proceedings.

15.20: Blackpool’s Ben Burgess has one of the best efforts of the game so far, but his header goes over the bar.

15.18: Keith Southern is booked for a foul on James McFadden.

15.08: Both sides still feeling their way into this one. Cameron Jerome pulls an effort horribly wide when he should have hit the target.

15.03: We are under way at St Andrews.

14.59: After last Saturday’s narrow home win against Doncaster, Alex McLeish will be hoping his men can put on more of a show this Saturday. Keeping all 11 players on the field would be good, too. The midweek 2-1 away win at Bristol City was another three points.

14:30: Teams in at St Andrews: -

Blues: Maik Taylor, Kelly, Martin Taylor, Ridgewell, Murphy, Larsson, Carsley, Agustien, McSheffrey, Jerome, McFadden.

Subs: Krysiak, Jaidi, Owusu-Abeyie, Phillips, Bent.

Blackpool: Rachubka, Barker, Edwards, Evatt, Camara, Taylor-Fletcher, Southern, Jorgensen, Vaughan, Kabba, Burgess.

Subs: Hammill, Fox, Rehman, Nardiello, Gow.

Referee: Mike Russell (Hertfordshire)
