Swoop on drugs in city with four held
Friday 19th September 2008, 10:52AM BST.
Four people were arrested today following early- morning drug raids in Lichfield.
Police officers swooped on two properties in the Dimbles Hill area shortly after 6am today.
Two men, aged 46 and 22, and two women, aged 44 and 23, were arrested on suspicion of offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
All four were taken to Burton upon Trent police station to be interviewed.
Inspector Jonathan Staite, commander of Lichfield’s Neighbourhood Policing Unit (NPU), said: “Today’s arrests follow a lengthy and detailed investigation into the supply and use of illegal drugs in the Lichfield area.
“Staffordshire Police treats the supply of drugs, and the effect they have on our communities, very seriously, and we are confident operations of this kind send a very strong message to those involved in illegal drug use in the area,” he added.
This morning’s operation was carried out by uniformed officers and members of Trent Valley police’s pro-active unit, and followed intelligence gathering work by officers into the supply and use of drugs in the area.
Anyone with information about illegal drugs activity can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
