Health scare in metal theft

Friday 19th September 2008, 9:54AM BST.

Metal thieves have ransacked the former eye infirmary site in Wolverhampton creating a huge health scare.

They exposed asbestos after tearing through walls and the roof to reach piping. The dangerous material was left on the ground outside the derelict building.

The break in was discovered when workers arrived to start a contract to remove the asbestos earlier this week. Health chiefs said there was no danger to the public unless they entered the grounds in Chapel Ash.
