Delight as college to get a £20m overhaul

Friday 19th September 2008, 10:12AM BST.

A £20 million plan to create first-class facilities at Halesowen College was revealed today.

It will help the college deliver the highest level of teaching for students, say its bosses.

Work to transform the Whittingham Road campus could start as early as next summer, subject to planning permission.

The last of the college’s original, outdated buildings will be demolished and three new two-storey buildings will be built in their place.

The plans also include an all-weather sports pitch and a car park.

College principal Keith Bate said it was an exciting time for the college, which has around 3,000 students.

He said: “The proposals are to replace the original buildings with state-of-the-art facilities.”

Work is already under way transforming the original O Block at the college to provide new classrooms and a refectory and is expected to be completed by May.

The development, which is the final part of the revamp, will include an IT, science and animal care block, facilities for students with learning difficulties as well as for sports and public service students. The college coffee shop will be relocated into one a new buildings.
