Jarvis injury boost for Wolves

Thursday 18th September 2008, 11:51AM BST.

wd2185837jarvis.jpgWinger Matt Jarvis hopes to give Wolves an injury boost by declaring himself fit for Saturday’s mouth watering clash with third placed Preston.

Jarvis missed Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace with a groin injury sustained in the victory at Charlton last weekend.

The 22-year-old wide man, who has been in top form in Wolves’ best start for 46 years, hopes to be involved at Deepdale, where he would make his 100th League start.

He said: “It’s just a little sore on sprinting and stuff like that. I’ve been getting treatment on it and hopefully it will be alright for the weekend. I didn’t feel it during the game at Charlton but I felt it after I got off the coach and it still felt sore the next day.

“I was disappointed to miss out on Tuesday night because I didn’t want to stop playing – I just want to keep my form going and us to keep winning.

“The lads did very well and got the result, and in the second half they looked comfortable. We’re confident going into every match but still taking every game as it comes so hopefully it just continues that way.

“Because we’re top, everyone is looking to beat us so Preston is going to be a very tough game – especially with the start they’ve had, but we’re looking forward to it.”

Wolves are also hoping to have Chris Iwelumo available after missing the last two matches with a similar problem to Jarvis.

Jarvis believes Iwelumo’s influence is one of the key factors in the club’s success so far.

The winger said: “He can be great for us. He’s already proved that by scoring five goals this season. He’s on fire at the moment and hopefully he can continue what he’s been doing.

“He’s a powerful guy, good in the air but also good with his feet which means we don’t always have to ‘boom’ the ball up top.

“We can pass it through and because he’s good with his feet, we can score goals like that too. He gives us that presence – if the ball is going up to him, defenders are wary of him. Because he’s such a big, strong bloke, he can put his body in there to keep the ball for us.”

Have to say preston will be a tough one for us.

Good to know though that we have quality on the pitch, quality on the bench, quality in the stands……..oh what a joy to be a wolves fan at the moment…..long may we reign!!

I’m going for preston 0 – 3 wolves, with Jarvo, Kites and Ebanks scoring.

Great news because jarvis will cause havoc to prestons defence, and with chris back fingers crossed it’s looking good, it will be a tough game because they are on form but i still fancy us to win.

Let’s all keep things in perspective, because sooner or later we’re going to get a pasting, or there’ll be a run of 2 or 3 games without a win – THAT’S when the lads will need the support, so all the boo-boys please stay away. Nice to not have you around for a change.

Talking of injuries, does anyone know if Jones will be fit for saturday??

Mind you,Edwards played a blinder when he came on against palace so maybe we could give Jones a bit of a rest.

Nice to have quality in depth!!

If we have both Jarvis and Iwelumo fit and playing to their potential, and the rest of the regulars fit and fired up we can possibly just shade Preston. Edwards can do just as good a job in midfield as Jones so we wont miss him as much if he’s not fit (and thats not taking anything away from Jones. I predict a draw or a loss without these two guys, a draw or a win with.

If he is fit, he needs to go straight into the team. We lacked composure & quality on the left on tuesday night. But the big choice is up front. Who to partner SEB. If big chris is fit then I think he needs to start.

Very good news on both counts (Jervis and Iwelumo). However let’s make sure that they really are fit otherwise you know what will happen !! The absence of these two on Tuesday showed so we need them fighting fit for as much of the season as possible. NO RISKS TO BE TAKEN PLEASE !! It was nice to see however that despite injuries on Tuesday we were able to scrap for a win. Last season a game like this would have been a copper bottomed draw and the fans would have been moaning about the team and the manager.
Saturday’s game will be a real test. If we can come away from there with our unbeaten run intact I will be more than happy.

Good news!! I thought we missed them both tuesday, they give us an extra threat along with Kites and Ebanks Blake a proper four pronged attack as opposed to last year with normally only one of that four on the pitch at one time!!hope we have good luck with injuries this year that could make all the differrence.

I think the younger players find it easier to play away from Molineux so i’m confident we’ll get the the right result. Jarvis and Kightly create so much confusion when they swop wings, we missed him on Tues night.

As Wolves maintained its momentum, it will spell a better performance than last season. But the test of the support is when the chips are down.

It will not be easy maintaining the form throughout the season but with undying support from the fans, management, coaching and medical staff we will indeed see better days for Wolves.

They must both play if 100% fit, nad please MM accept that Ward is not a full back he is always being caught out of position hence Collins having to cover. The goal could have been avoided if Collins had played it out but he was the rock in the defence. Keogh may have scored the goal but he is too light weight and couldn’t hot a barn door. If we have a problem again we should play Jones Henry and Edwards.I think Edwards should start every game with either Henry or Jones being his partner.
We should have no problems beating Preston
3-1. I haven’t seen a team in our division who will beat us we will have the league sown up by the end of January 09.
