Albion trio could all return

Thursday 18th September 2008, 2:30PM BST.

wd2997898wba-v-everton-10.jpgAlbion trio Gianni Zuiverloon, Abdoulaye Meite and Ishmael Miller could all be back from injury against Villa on Sunday after returning to training.

Defenders Zuiverloon and Meite plus striker Miller missed out against West Ham on Saturday but manager Tony Mowbray insists all three could still make Sunday’s Hawthorns derby.

The Baggies boss said: “They are all back on the training ground and we have our fingers crossed for them. The danger is that when you have been out for a few weeks you go back on the training ground and feel a bit sore and stiff when you wake up the next day.

“That sometimes means you have to go back on the treatment table. We will wait and see but they have all got a chance, I would suggest.

“They are all itching to play and if they can train over the next few days they will be in contention.”

Zuiverloon (hamstring) is the man Baggies fans will be most keen to see back, with the prospect of Villa dangerman Ashley Young supplying the ammunition for the visitors down the Baggies right.

A return for Meite (calf) could also allow Mowbray to reunite the Ivory Coast international with Leon Barnett at the heart of defence.

Miller (calf) would face an anxious wait for team news if he was declared fit, after Roman Bednar produced an encouraging performance in replacing him as the lone striker against the Hammers.

Striker Craig Beattie is also back in training after a bizarre injury scare.

The Scot hurt his ankle kicking the ball away in celebration after his successful penalty in the reserves’ 3-0 win over Fulham bounced back out off the net.

Mowbray said: “He is back on the training ground and he is fine. I was away watching Villa against Tottenham that night but I watched the DVD.”

“it was quite funny to see Craig injure himself when the ball rebounded out of the net from his penalty.

“It wouldn’t have been funny if he had an injury as such but he is back on the training ground so it was quite an amusing event.”

hopefully TM will keep Bednar in his place as last saturday, he seems to have more of that grit that we need up front, miller is a great potential but i think it would be ebst for him to be brought on as a sub to spice up the last 25 minutes.

zuvi is the most important for obvious reason, cant wait to see him again, he can deal with young and wud like to see meite at the back with barnett, also if we stretch villa on the wings im sure we can win, we are alot better side than we think we are. were guna do well this year. and i think valero and bednar will do brill

Zuiverloon must be put back in if he’s fit, as he oozes class!!

He hasn’t put a foot wrong as of yet, and if he’s fit, he’s a certain starter!!

Definitely need Zuiverloon back, but most of the other positions are – from the West Ham game – okay. Olsson did really well in defence, as did Bednar up front. I’d rather we didn’t rush the injured back (apart from GZ).

I have to say that I think you will struggle against villa. Whilst the atmosphere will be electric and derbys can generally swing either way (not counting our recent record against you lot), I think they will edge it 3-1.

I think the old saying goes that you should never change a winning side (injuries aside)so although it’s good for you guys to have these players back the team that scrapped for that win at the weekend surely deserve another chance ?

Why is everyone so down on the Hoff? With better support in front of him from midfield he is solid enough. Support whoever is in the shirt. Come on you Baggies!

I’m sorry, but I’m getting fed up with the antics of a few Wolves (and baggie) “supporters”. Yes, I would like to see us win, but I’m a baggie fan first and a midlander side second. Which means that I like to see the midland sides do well. If it’s wolves against doncaster, I’d like wolves to win, If it’s us against villa, I want us to win.
This constant “you’ll be going straight down” just gets on my wick. Just as the retorts that are shot straight back make me cringe. I’m all for friendly rivally, but lets keep it on the friendly level.
I would love to see Birmingham and Wolves in the premiership with Villa and us. Heck, I’d like to see Walsall there too. It would be good to have more midland sides in the top league.

It would be nice to let Albion fans discuss OUR premiership business, but you can’t stop sad little wulfs poking their snouts here,it gives ‘em a sense of importance trying to mix with the Big Boys. It’s a bit like a celebrity being stalked by inadequate saddos.Still, let ‘em have a bit of excitement reading about the Brazilian Baggies.God knows they need it.

For what it`s worth, i also think you are on your way back, you have had a lot of false dawns, but there seems to be a different edge this season, of course there is a long way to go and it wont be a pushover, but my money would be on a top two.
